Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully traced a sensational Amritsar Robbery Case with the arrest of seven accused persons including daughter of victim’s driver and her fiancé— who hatched the entire conspiracy to execute the robbery, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.
Those arrested have been identified as Shivani (28) of Amar Avenue in Khandwala Chheharta and her fiancé Gurtek Singh (23) of Ajnala, and their accomplices including Gurpreet Singh (34) of Majitha road Amritsar, Sandeep Singh (29) of Jandiala, Deepak Kumar (30) of village Mahal, Hardev Singh (53) of Ajnala and Harpal Singh (52) of Rajasansi in Amritsar. Accused Shivani is a daughter of Narinder Mohan Mehta, who is working as a Driver with victim Jiya Lal Behal, and was acquainted with the affluence of the latter.
As per the information, four armed men with their faces covered decamped with Rs 90 lakh and 3kg jewellery after barging into the house of victim Jiya Lal on Wednesday early morning.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that three accused persons— Gurpreet, Sandeep and Deepak were arrested from district Dhule in Maharashtra in an inter-state operation with the assistance of Maharashtra Police and Central Agencies, while, remaining four persons were arrested from Amritsar. Police teams have also recovered Rs 41.40 lakhs cash and 800 grams gold from their possession, he added.
The DGP said that Police teams have adopted a professional and scientific approach to solve this sensational robbery case. Further investigations are on in this case, he said.
Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that following the incident, Police teams from Civil Lines Police Station, CIA-1 and CIA-2 under the supervision of ADCP CITY-2 Abhimanyu Rana and ACP North Vijay Kumar immediately started investigations in this case.
He said that Police teams had managed to trace the case in less than 12 hours and made arrests of three accused persons from Maharashtra within 24 hours. While, the remaining four accused persons were arrested on Friday and Saturday, he added.
CP Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that two more accomplices involved in this case have been identified and raids are being conducted to apprehend them. Investigations are on to establish the forward and backward linkages in this case, he added.
A case FIR no. 107 dated 26-06-2024 had been registered under section 394 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Civil Lines Amritsar.
