Chandigarh, April 9
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday put the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government in the docks for its failure to fulfil its promise and for its negligent attitude on rampant issues in the state.
“The AAP had vowed to end corruption from the state. The party also said it would adopt a zero-tolerance against corruption. Now, the government owes an explanation to the people of Punjab as to why has it failed to end corruption in Punjab. The AAP government should tell why it failed to end the VIP culture”, Bajwa added.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that the AAP’s promises and commitments to end the drug menace have proven to be hollow. Deaths caused by drug overdose have become a new normal under the two-year regime of the AAP. Similarly, the law and order situation has deteriorated and the AAP government did nothing to curb the growing crime rate in the state.
“The AAP government has neither regularised the services of contractual workers nor it has implemented the Old Pension Scheme. It only made false promises and presented misleading information on both of the issues. The AAP government couldn’t even streamline the economy of the state. On the contrary, the debt burden on the state has spiralled in the two-year regime of AAP. The state government is estimated to borrow Rs 30,465 crore in the financial year 2024-25.
The opposition leader said that despite assurances, Punjab CM Bhagwant didn’t provide compensation to farmers, whose crops were damaged by the floods and untimely rain and hailstorm. CM Mann also failed to defend the state’s rights on its river water and capital, Chandigarh.
“The AAP government couldn’t raise Rs 20000 crore revenue from illegal mining and Rs 34000 crore by ending corruption. Similarly, the women of Punjab are still waiting for the government to fulfil its promise of Rs 1000 per month”, Bajwa added.
