Chandigarh, April 8
Terming the Aam Aadmi Party’s hunger strike at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, as an absolute flop show, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday said that the AAP government failed to elicit support from Punjab in favour of hunger strike protest.
“The AAP Punjab unit failed to convince the people of Punjab to reach the hunger strike venue. Consequently, most of the chairs remained vacant during the protest. Despite being in power for two years, the AAP could not organise big a gathering. However, the similar protest organised in Delhi was said to be comparatively successful”, Bajwa added.
Referring to a news report, Bajwa said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remained unsuccessful in reaching the venue on time and he left before the scheduled time. He attended the hunger strike protest only for three to four hours. Besides this, the AAP workers were seen having food during the hunger strike. The hunger strike of AAP at other places of Punjab also failed yield support of Punjabis.
“As per another report, the protest of AAP at Khatkar Kalan created a huge inconvenience for the people of the region. Villagers were not allowed to perform their routine activities by the security forces. Farmers were not allowed to water their wheat farms. How can a party that befooled the Punjabis with claims of being low-profile, cause inconvenience to the people”, Bajwa asked.
Bajwa said that to organise such gathering is violation of election code of conduct and the election commission of India should take action against the AAP.
“It is highly shameful for the AAP to organise hunger strike at such pious place Khatkar Kalan against arrest of Kejriwal, who was arrested by the ED in a liquor related case”, Bajwa added.
The Senior Congress Leader, Bajwa said that the AAP’s hunger strike against the arrest of AAP supremo and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was scheduled to be held throughout the state, however, it remained constrained to Khatkar Kalan and that too turned out to be a flop show.
