Chandigarh, March 12:- Aiming to deliver a reliable and sustainable water supply system in the city, contributing to the development and well-being of communities by ensuring access to clean and safe water resources, the MC Chandigarh has started the work of providing canal water supply to village Kishangarh.
City Mayor Sh. Kuldeep Kumar today started the project work formally for the supply of canal water to Village Kishangarh at an estimated to cost Rs. 3.90 crores in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC, Chandigarh, Smt. Suman Sharma, area councilor and other prominent persons of the local area.
While addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that MC Chandigarh is committed to completing this project efficiently and within the designated timeline. The successful implementation of this initiative will not only address the water scarcity issues faced by the residents but also contribute to the overall development and well-being of Village Kishangarh.
He said that the comprehensive scope of the project includes the provision of sluice valves, non-return valves, pumping machinery, LT panel, cables, and the boring and installation of cast-in-situ RCC piles over Sukhna Choe. Additionally, the estimate includes the restoration of road cuts, paver cuts, concrete cuts, and road berm cuts to minimize disruption to the local infrastructure.
Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner said on the occasion that the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh is dedicated to providing essential services and infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Chandigarh. With a focus on sustainable development, the corporation strives to meet the evolving needs of the city and its residents.
She said that village Kishangarh, with a population of approximately 20,000 including the extended population currently faces water scarcity issues, particularly during the summer season. The existing water supply infrastructure, consisting of three tubewells with boosters, is unable to meet the village’s daily water requirement, which is estimated to be around 6,60,000 gallons per day.
The Commissioner said that to address this challenge, it has become imperative to explore alternative water sources. Therefore, the MC Chandigarh undertaken the task of supplying canal water from Water Works Sector-26 to Tubewell Boosters Part-4 and Part-5 of Village Kishangarh. This project involves the installation and laying of an MS water supply pipeline, including various sizes such as 450mm diameter (2349m), 400mm diameter (1790m), 250mm diameter (326m), and 150mm diameter (404m).
