(Chandigarh Bureau) : “As per the directions of Chairman-Cum-Additional Secretary Health, Chandigarh Administration, a Joint Team: comprising officials of Health Department, Police Department, Excise & Taxation Department, Department of legal Meteorology, Food safety & Drug Control wing conducted a joint raid on 24.5.2023.
1) Sh. Sham Lal Sharma S/o Desh Raj Sharma R/o 113B, Sector 30 Chd was present in Shop : SHARMA PAN HOUSE, Booth No. 2 Sector 19-D, Chandigarh, Phone No. 9877654425.
2) Sh. Harish Bhatia S/o Sh. Mohinder Bhatia # 123, Sectort 20 A, Chandigarh was present in Shop: M.L. BHATIA, Booth No. 3, Sector 19-C, Chandigarh & were found to have stock of and selling imported cigarettes without having any purchase record and the mandatory 85% pictorial warning regarding health hazard as required under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.
3) Sh. Ankush Charasia S/o Sh. Parkash H No. 86, Sector 56, Chandigarh Mobile No. 9815156464 was present in Shop: CHAURASIA PAN, SECTOR 27D, Chandigarh & were found to have stock of and selling imported cigarettes without having any purchase record and the mandatory 85% pictorial warning regarding health hazard as required under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003
4) Sh. Manoj Kumar S/o Sh. Vidya Parkash # 263, Sec-4, PKL. Was present in Shop: CHAURASIA BROS. Booth No.1, Sector 22C, Chandigarh & were found to have stock and selling imported cigarettes without having any purchase record and the mandatory 85% pictorial warning regarding health hazard as required under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003

The fines were imposed upon the shopkeepers by the Health Department, Chandigarh Administration& the Excise Department. The illegal loose cigarettes amounting to around Rs. 30,000/- were self destroyed by the shopkeepers.
- The Food Safety officials seized 24 packets of 86 gms. Each of Vimal brand Pan Masala, as a legal sample for analysis by the National Tobacco Testing Laboratory (NTTL) from Shop: L. BHATIA Booth No. 3, Sector 19, Chandigarh without having any purchase record and the mandatory 85% pictorial warning regarding health hazard as required under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.
- The Legal Metrology Department representative seized 11 packets of Organic Smokes from Shop: CHAURASIA PAN, SECTOR 27, Chandigarh worth about Rs.2500/- under Packaged Commodity Rules 2011 Vape.
- The Police Department representative seized 301 Vaping Devices & 80 Refills & 140 Packets of tobacco Molasses containing nicotine from Shop: CHAURASIA BROS. Booth No.1, Sector 22, Chandigarh.
- The Excise Department seized imported cigarettes without having any purchase record and the mandatory 85% pictorial warning regarding health hazard as required under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 worth approx Rs. 25,000/- from Shop: L. BHATIA Booth No. 3, Sector 19, Chandigarh & also worth approx Rs. 35,000/- from Shop: CHAURASIA BROS. Booth No.1, Sector 22, Chandigarh.
Such raids shall be continued in future by the Permanent Task Force constituted by the Chandigarh Administration to make the public more aware about National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to prevent sale of illegal imported cigarettes.”
