The Excise Department U.T. Chandigarh is going to implement a track and trace system to effectively monitor the entire supply chain of liquor production, distribution, and retail. The track and trace system begins at the production stage, where each liquor bottle is assigned a unique identification code i.e QR Code. Each bottle as well as the case would carry a unique identification in the form of QR and Bar code respectively, which can be scanned to verify the source and track of flow of liquor. Excise-Taxation Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said that mobile app has also been developed, which will help to check the authenticity of the liquor bottle by way of scanning the QR code. The track and trace system promotes transparency and accountability among stakeholders. This discourages illicit activities such as smuggling and counterfeit production, fostering a fair and competitive market environment. It would help the department in detecting any unauthorized activities, the government can ensure that all taxes and duties owed are fully paid. The software for the system has been developed by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information & Technology, Chandigarh Administration . Trial has also been successfully conducted. The stakeholders have already been given the specifications to purchase the hardware i.e. printer & scanner from the company of their choice .The department of Excise & taxation is floating a tender for purchase of Tamper Evident Adhesive Sticker (TEAS) and Ribbon for printer as per the schedule below.
